BENJAMIN TAY

Benjamin is passionate about empowering individuals to know more and find solutions to stop haze. He is currently the executive director at People’s Movement to Stop Haze (PM.Haze), which is a non-profit focusing on outreach, research and advocacy on the transboundary haze crisis. He coordinates haze prevention programmes both locally and overseas.

As Executive Director of PM.Haze, Benjamin works with Indonesian and Malaysian communities to develop and implement ecological restoration of degraded peatlands and sustainable development of community livelihoods. Their mission is to drive a global movement to stop the haze by empowering the community with the knowledge, means and values. Steering consumption patterns towards sustainable palm oil and paper as well as assisting Indonesian and Malaysian farmers to create a sustainable livelihood are two main ways they empower our community. Their advocacy programme includes reaching out to businesses and consumers to adopt sustainable palm oil.

Benjamin holds a Master of Asia-Pacific Studies with Distinction from the Australian National University.

Benjamin is passionate about environmental causes and providing education on the importance of sustainability. He aspires for people to go beyond adaptation strategies and find solutions to prevent transboundary haze.
